South Carolina – Food Stamps

Food stamps are federal benefits, and rules regarding eligibility and benefit levels are set by the federal government. However, each state is responsible for administering food stamps to its residents.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the name of the federal food stamp program. To apply for SNAP in South Carolina, you may apply online or print and fill out this PDF application English | Spanish and return it to your DSS county office.

To find out if you are eligible for food stamps or how many you can receive, complete the SCMAPP Am I Eligible calculator tool. Please note that it is NOT an application for food stamps, but it is a good way to determine if you may be eligible to receive these benefits.

Once you are notified of eligibility, you can then use your Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card to access food stamps and cash benefits. This card works like a debit card, and makes issuing food stamps easier and faster.
